DIY Facial Oil Recipes

Have you peeked at the ingredients in your favorite facial moisturizer? Have you checked the safety of those ingredients on EWG.org? If you haven’t you should. When I saw the safety rating of my former favorite facial cleanser and moisture I decided it was time to make my own.

Of course, there are many natural, safe facial cleansers and moisturizers on the market today. In fact, I love Young Living’s Art Skin Care System, their Boswellia Wrinkle Cream, and their Orange Blossom Face Wash. But, I also enjoy making my own DIY beauty and personal care products to have on hand for when my favorite Young Living products are out of stock. Also, how cool is it to make your own facial cleanser and moisturizer? It’s so fun and frugal!

Check out my homemade facial cleansing oil and homemade facial hydrating oil below and see how easy it is to make your own safe and healthy facial care products.

Homemade Hydrating Facial Moisturizer

A Note About Oils For Facial Care

Let’s talk about oils for facial care for a second. I like to use three different oils on my face for cleaning and for moisturizing – coconut oil, olive oil, and grapeseed oil. There are many other oils you can use in your homemade facial cleansers and moisturizers. These three are simply my favorites.

I like to use coconut oil in the winter because it hydrates so well. However, coconut oil causes some folks to break out and has a comedogenic rating of 4, so I won’t be using it in the recipes I’m sharing today.

Instead I’ll use olive oil (comedogenic rating of 2) and grape seed oil (comedogenic rating of 1) in the recipes I’m sharing here.

Recently I learned that hemp oil is awesome and has a comedogenic rating of 0. I’ll be trying it in both of the recipes when I run out of my current supply.

Now, on to what you came here for!

DIY Facial Cleansing Oil Recipe

I love this homemade facial cleansing oil for helping to reduce the appearance of blemishes, to reduce the appearance of uneven skin tone, and to support the appearance of healthy-looking skin.

The scent is lovely and grounding. It’s almost like meditating while caring for my skin. Win-win!

Ingredients

1/4 cup organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil

10 drops of pure lemon essential oil

10 drops of pure frankincense essential oil

Instructions

Place the oils together in a glass jar or bottle with dropper. Shake gently before each use.

Double the recipe if needed.

Usage

Rub a dropperful or a dime sized amount of oil over your face with your fingers. Wet a muslin cloth in warm water and wipe oil from face.

DIY Facial Hydrating Oil

This is my favorite summer moisturizer, especially after spending a day in the sand and sun. The lavender essential oil in this recipe soothes minor skin irritations, helps to balance my skin, and supports my skin as it ages. And, of course, the smell is heavenly. It’s like a spa-day each time I use it. So calming.

Ingredients

1/4 cup organic cold pressed grapeseed oil

15 drops of pure lavender essential oil

Instructions

Place the oils together in a glass jar or bottle with dropper. Shake gently before each use.

Double the recipe if needed.

Usage

Rub a dropperful or a dime sized amount of oil over your face with your fingers. Do not rinse or wipe off. You may want more or less depending on your facial hydration needs.
