Easy Homemade Taco Seasoning
Hey, busy parents! Â I understand your struggle to get a healthy dinner on the table when you’re just trying to survive day to day in the busy seasons of your life. Â When you need real food that will also appeal to children who are notorious for their picky palates, you don’t have a lot of time to fuss over ingredients or spend tons of time prepping.
Tacos are a great real food meal for busy families. Â You can make the meat ahead of time to get dinner on the table faster on a weeknight. Â Tacos are a great way to get your kids to eat their veggies if you add a nutrient-rich lettuce or raw spinach leaves and tomatoes to the toppings.
I used to buy those convenient packets of taco seasoning and other mixes, but when I realized how much MSG they contained, I stopped. Â It was pointless to buy something that was so unhealthy when my goal was to get a nutritious meal on the table.
I decided to start making my own homemade taco seasoning and I’ve never bought a packet of taco seasoning since!  You can make your own taco seasoning, too, with my recipe below.  The recipe is for two pounds of ground beef or turkey, but you can make several batches of this yummy seasoning at once and store it in a mason jar in your spice cabinet so that you save even more time!
Get some yummy masa flour taco shells or some sprouted tortillas (or make your own soaked tortillas) and have a delicious and healthy taco night in a flash!

Homemade Taco Seasoning
Ingredients
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 4 tsp cumin
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp oregano
Instructions
- For use with a single meal of 2 lbs of ground beef or turkey, simple spoon the ingredients into a bowl, wisk together gently and add to ground meat before cooking.
- To make this recipe in bulk, increase the ingredients as needed, keeping the same ratio and store in a mason jar in your spice cabinet.
This recipe makes enough for two pounds of ground meat. I usually mix up more and store it for future use.  I like to cook five pounds of ground turkey or beef with this homemade taco seasoning mixed in to keep in the freezer for quick and easy use on busy evenings.
I’ve also found that this recipe, doubled, will season the meat from one whole chicken nicely for chicken tacos. Cook a whole chicken in the crock-pot on low for 8 hours. Remove the bones and shred the meat. Mix in the taco seasoning. Store leftover seasoned meat in the freezer for another quick and easy meal later.
